I'm sorry to hear about the engine and hope it's the head, not the block.

I don't know why the part numbers are different for the blocks, but I would be surprised if they are different castings. Note that the crank and pistons use the same part numbers between 900 & 9000.

There are different part numbers in the EPC for c900 16V NA and Turbo blocks, too. But I don't think it matters: Some time ago, I built a 16V turbocharged engine using an '86 8V NA block. I could not determine any difference between the 8V block and the 16V Turbo in my '89 or any of the other B202s I've had my hands on.

I have read on the internet a claim that the non-turbo and Turbo blocks used different alloys (more nickel in Turbo block was the claim) but I have not seen any Saab documentation to support this. I have also read that the only difference between a non-turbo and Turbo c900 block was the plug in the turbo oil return hole; however, this does not have anything to do with the casting. Then again, for some reason it may have been simpler for Saab to simply assign different part numbers to the two variants.

This is just a long-winded way of saying that while I'm not positive about the blocks, I'm pretty sure they'll work interchangeably given the same crank and piston part numbers and the fact that I have a 16V turbo engine based on an 8V block that works just fine.
