Adjusting broken electric seatbacks?

The seats on my '94 turbo convertible have succumbed to the dreaded cracked housing disease. I attempted to fix the problem with the hose/hoseclamp method, but one of them seems to have self-destructed and unwound part of the inner cable inside the housing connector to the motor. This has completely jammed the cable in the housing end.
Now, I'd like to cut my losses and just get the seat to a reasonable seating position (it is straight, but leaning forward slightly), and disconnect the power to the motor.
Can anyone suggest a method for adjusting the seatback, other than replacing the seat? I saw someone mention connecting a drill to the cable, but I think it would likely cause the cable to just further unwind.
Thanks,
John
