Alright - as promised, I just wanted to post this after action report concerning the frame rail kit from Skandix. As a note: I have heard many good things about Auto Rust Technicians kit - so I am not advancing one over the other, but I do want to share my experiences with it.
The Skandix kit was reasonably priced - all in, for shipping from Germany, was a total of $135 USD. Granted, that's to Virginia, but seemed pretty reasonable. The kit did take upwards of 3-4 weeks to get here, but when it arrived, I was reasonably impressed with the quality - it's sheet metal, with very specific cuts and grooves to fit.
As I have NO experience welding or cutting metal - I did elect to take it to someone who does. In this case, I took it to S&S Auto in Warrenton, VA. Jeff (the mech) had indicated that he did his own repair using basic sheet metal. Total cost was about $500 to cut out bad metal, weld kit in, and do a couple of POR-15 treatments on the area.
Driving it home - that A-Frame knocking has stopped. Best feedback I can give, seeing as I didn't have to put it in place: Jeff indicated the Skandix kit had more than enough metal to fix my problem (and in fact, he ended up trimming the bottom piece a bit) - and he asked me for their website, as he would now prefer to order those kits than make his own - i.e. he was very impressed with the quality.
Anyway - I'm happy. Did discover I have very minor rust on the drivers side, but don't need to worry about it until I am ready to order the Skandix kit for that side.
Any questions - let me know. Overall - pleased with the entire process, and I know I won't have to worry about that area again.
