Be sure that the transaxle is full of good oil. If it gets low the chain tensioner can run dry and fail to tension the primary chains which will allow them the rattle. The upper chainwheel bearing may be a suspect also and it can be replaced without pulling the unit from the car. When idling in neutral (clutch engaged) pretty much everything inside the transaxle is rolling except the pinion shaft and final drive so you may just be hearing the normal sound of used gears meshing (describe the sound) with old or insufficient oil. If so, drain it and refill fully with some good MTL. Good luck
