Phatom,
Since no one is coming forth with any gems I will put in my two cents.
I would tackle the grounds for the instrument pod as well as the other couple of grounds behind the dash. You might be able to get at the cluster grounds through the left speaker grill. I have only messed with them with the cluster out of the car and you can explore all that at this fine site: http://www.fixmysaab.com/900_repair/diydash/step3.asp?nsteps=6
The grounds behind the dash require the bolster to come down which might be a daunting task if you have not done it before. I have been in and out if there a few times and it doesn't take 20 minutes to do. Follow the manual and remember that you have to remove the bolt above the ashtray and then the stud it threads into (which will essentially be another bolt at that point). There is one major ground point on the left side, check your manual as I think there are more.
I remove the fastener and use a jewelers file to clean the underside of its head as well as all the connectors which are eyelets. I then smear dielectric grease on everything and reassemble. Really bad grounds will cause circuits to have to "hunt" for grounds which can cause some really weird things to blink on and off. Ever see the display in an Alfa Milano going nuts? Or the tail lights in my '85 Turbo before I added ground wires.
Remember that advice is worth what you pay for it.
Regards,
Scott
