I've noticed in the last week or so that my transmission takes a while to shift into 3rd gear (automatic). If I just cruise at 30 or so mph, then it will sit in 2nd and not shift up. After owning the car, I know when it usually shifts and this is abnormal.

If I accelerate aggressively, it shifts smoothly and without issue through all gears. Normally 3rd gear shifting has always happened with a bit of a bump if I am slowly accelerating.

Is this is sign that the transmission is going out, or does it just need fluid. I once had an Oldsmobile (2.8L V6 w/3spd auto) that shifted funny...my dad put in transmission fluid and it ran perfectly. So, what do you think...add fluid or will I be reading it's eulogy soon?
