ABS pump burnt out? Any tips on changing it? long.....

'90 Turbo Convertible. Today I replaced the coolant (block & radiator drained, flushed). While I was adding coolant and bleeding the cooling system for 20-30 minutes with the car idling, apparently the ABS pump came on (both lights lit) and ran continuously until something burned out. I did smell something overheating, checked engine temp, it was fine, so I figured I had spilled something on a hot source. When I got into car to move it to garage, both ABS lights were on. Let it cool down, lights never go out, brakes feel wrong sometimes, If I just turn the key on, can't hear the pump run. So - I have a spare used ABS assembly. Any hints/pointers/problems? Change the whole ABS unit? Change the pump & motor assy.? Any way to test? Well - changing the brake fluid was next on my To-Do list. Oh, well.
