The microswitches in your latches have probably gone bad. It is either telling you your latches are shut when they aren't or open when they aren't.
They are not terribly hard to replace, check that auction place for replacements.
Your clutch cable is probably shot. This wonder of technology was new to the NG900s and was promptly switched back to a hydraulic clutch.
The burning smell is anyone's guess. Clutch material, oil on manifold.
Check over on the NG900 board for some more help.
