I assume that since you say internal seal you mean that it is leaking around the shaft and not between the valve cover and distributor housing.

It was only the later 16 V engines without Hall effect sensor that had an internal seal that could be replaced, albeit slightly difficult, all others didn't until the NG900 with non turbo engine which have a Hall effect sensor (CMP sensor) and also an internal seal.
