Odo & Clock Repair

So I'm working down my fix list. I got the instrument cluster out & separated the tach & speedo - completely removed from the cluster. My odomter was stuck on 97xxx, the speedo worked. I took the 4 small screws out of the front, however the front clear plastic piece is still held by the speedo shaft with the tiny spring. I gently pryed, no luck. So I turned my attention to the top row of numbers. It seemed the 9 was wedged by the gear behind it. With the front loose, I was able to reset the gears & numbers. I can turn the "tenth" wheel or the top metal gear & everything turns and records increased mileage. I stuck a square bid in the drill and slowly turned it in both directions. No movement on the odo or speedo. Did I miss something or am I doing something wrong? How else can I test it. Also, what color were the needles originally? Mine are orange on the side & yellow on the face. I suspect they are badly faded. The clock seems fairly straight forward. I'm off to Radio Shack tomorrow for the capacitor. Thanks for any advice/suggestions.
