Air filter is empty, I had only put a brand new filter in the week previous

But speaking of mice I have this problem bad, they seem to be screwing around with the "tool box" in the trunk, all kinds of padding torn out of something made into a kind of nest

when I stored this vert I found the same mess, they had gone into the spring tower on the driver's side under the ABS stuff

anyway my two other cars though have the mice residues in the back, and who knows where else

How can I keep them out of there? Something like traps or whatever that will kill the mice is no good, since I might only see the cars once in two weeks or longer, and that would be really stinky.

suggestions?
