Total and sudden loss of all power Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 20:12:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
'88 900 NA, 388,500 mi. Driving home this evening, rounded a curve onto a road that would otherwise have taken me home in ~2 miles, all power was lost: the engine died, the lights went out... It was a dead parrot (google Monty Python).
As you might imagine with a car as old as mine, I've been through nearly all scenarios of failures related to charging issues, but this is a new one: there is NO power-- no headlights, tail-lights, dash lights-- and needless to say no cranking ability.
I abandoned it by the side of the road for the night and will return to deal with it the morning. At worst AAA coverage will get it towed home, but I can't help but think that there's a single and simple fix for this condition and I'd appreciate any pointers.
Battery is new as of 3 weeks ago, 550 CCA and solid on start of drive home tonight.
Headlights and radio as normal until failure.
No amp light warning prior to failure, none since given that I have NO power.
This wasn't how I planned to spend this weekend, any help is appreciated.
