EMMISSIONS DILEMMA revisited....ARRRGH! Posted by ROCKYSAAB [Email] (#255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ROCKYSAAB) on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 04:07:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Two years ago when going through the process of getting through the Virginia emissions, I was overwhelmed by all the different possibilities for getting it through after it's failure (the NOX was high). The mechanic I use for inspections (a Shell Station) couldn't figure it out either. He tried getting it hot by driving, checked fuel regulator etc...to no avail.
It finally passed, but only after I bought another (used) Jetronic LH engine control module (which didn't help it pass) and another EZK ignition control module, which apparently was the wrong one(Bosch 0227 400 127) but it did barely pass with it. The original ICM that came with the 93's is Bosch# 0227 400 195. After it passed with the one made for the 88 900/9000 (Bosch 0227 400 127), he put the original back in and here I am now, two years later needing to get emissions again.
I have purchased parts from various online parts sources (including eeuroparts). A headed pipe, gaskets, O2 sensor, and a new cat. Needed the header pipe because there was a leak in the original header pipe at the weld where it connects to the cat. Bought a net O2 sensor to go with the new header, and a new cat just to have everything down there new...(thinking probably wrongly that if I replace all that stuff....it will have a better chance of passing. I have not yet received my parts, so I could send some back (except the header pipe) if I can get it to pass. Oh, and I have inspected the vacuum hoses and replaced most fittings and hoses.
Question: Could the hole in the header pipe near the O2 sensor have caused the high NOX readings somehow? If so, then replacing the header pipe and the O2 sensor may do the trick and I can maybe send the cat back.
Question: Do cats go bad? How?
Any and all help welcomed!
