It is not likely that your problem is the same but I will tell you anyway. I had a 5-speed that wouldn't go into reverse. I went crazy trying to figure it out. It ended up being the reverse back up light switch. It screws into the side of the shift assembly. The housing on mine was worn from being pushed in at an angle. I still have that switch in my drawer today. If you have the plastic removed from around the shift assembly, just rotate that switch about 90 degrees and give it a try. I was amazed that the switch could prevent me from muscling it into reverse.
