carlotta,
I have a feeling that you have a leaking front brake caliper or hose which has drained the reservoir to the point that the clutch master is now pushing air. Because of the design of the reservoir the brakes will keep working for a while after the clutch line goes dry. Anytime you push an old caliper piston all the way back into its caliper to install new pads you run the risk that the caliper seals will immediately fail. Also, flexing an old brake hose when the caliper is unbolted and lifted off to replace the pads can result in that hose springing a leak.
First thing to do is refill the reservoir, reverse bleed the clutch hydraulic system and place some cardboard under the wheels overnight so you will (maybe) see if there is a leak. I reverse bleed these by attaching a two foot long piece of 8 mm (5/16") vinyl hose to the clutch bleed nipple (on the slave cylinder), pour it full of fluid, open the nipple, (remove the reservoir cap), and then blow the fluid (by mouth) through the line until it bubbles up in the reservoir. Close the nipple, refill the hose and repeat until you have good pedal action. If you are squeamish about putting your mouth on the hose then use a compressor regulated down to about 3 PSI. Lung power has always worked for me but I put brake fluid on my pancakes.
