Hissing noise behind dashboard gas smell on turbo boost

Hello, I recently began hearing a hissing noise in the passenger cabin of my 1986 900S Turbo -- it sounds like a vacuum leak coming from behind the dashboard. I have searched this forum but can't seem to find the same combination of my 900's symptoms. Here are my observations:
1. The hissing sound can be heard immediately upon startup at idle.
2. The hissing sound gets louder when there is any amount of turbo boost applied -- it sounds like it may change from a vacuum sound to a pressure sound.
3. When turbo boost is applied a noticeable gas fume smell can be detected in the passenger cabin.
4. The hissing noise and gas smell upon turbo boost issues materialized at the same time.
5. The Turbo Boost gauge is functioning properly.
6. There is an irregular idle on cold startup, and sometimes stalls when cold, but when the car is warm the idle is normal and does not stall.
7. The idle/stall issues on cold start in #6 above existed well *before* the hissing noise issues (#1 - #4 above) materialized.
Aside from the issues above, the engine runs great. Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.
