Headliner Disaster...Now What? (Long)

Good Evening,
I carefully read many posts on line as well as TwinSaabs recommendation for headliner replacement and took mine out this afternoon from a 1986 2 door notchback. I was loosening the last bit of trim and started to take the headliner down when disaster struck.
The sunroof had leaked numerous times over the life of the car due to clogged drain plugs getting the headliner and backing material wet in the process. The clogged drains where remedied and I am assuming that the many wet/dry cycles had made the board more brittle than it typically is. Anyway, the fiberboard broke into 3 pieces under its own weight in the car by the sunroof cut out area.
My question is what are my options? Can I fix the board material and what have others done in the past when this has happened? This was a very discouraging afternoon on top of the corporate news we have been following.
Thank you in advance.
