Okay, so Saturday I discovered that there is a tube leading from a cylindrical object labeled "2.5 bar" above the rear of the engine, to a connector on what I guess is the exhaust--it's sort of four thick cast metal tubes coming together. Anyway, on top of what I presume is the exhaust there is a little round plastic fitting with a connector on the rear side into which this tube is going. It looks like maybe it used to be a T-connected but now is missing the other side of the T. Or else the other side was merely capped off? I don't know; all I know is there is a small hole on what would be the other side of the T, and that hole had suction and when I covered it, my idle went back down to about 900. So in advance of figuring out if something more important was supposed to go there, I stuck a piece of electrical tape over the hole, and my idle trouble seemed fixed.
The question is: is there a tube floating around my engine now which was supposed to connect to the other side of that connected? I didn't notice any loose tubes but I certainly may've missed it...
Okay, now another issue: I haven't had a working oil pressure switch since I got the car, a fact I only recently noticed. I grounded the connector wire to the engine and noticed my oil light come on when I turn the key to On. So I assumed the switch was bad and bought a new one. My friendly neighbor had the gigantic socket necessary to get the old switch out and the even larger, different sized socket to put the new one in (thank you Walt!!). I turn the key and voila! Oil dummy light! Hurray.
I drive around, pick up a few buddies and go to an event which lasts about an hour and a half. When I come out, my battery doesn't have enough juice to turn the starter. I get a jump start and successfully drop all my buddies off (about 45 minutes of driving around, leaving the engine on the whole time). Go home, leave the car overnight, and Sunday afternoon, once again the battery doesn't have enough juice to turn the starter.
Now, before changing out the alternator, I took the battery to Autozone. It was barely over 2 years old, and dead. They charged it, then tested it and told me the battery was holding a charge fine. I ended up replacing the alternator with a "rebuilt" one from Autozone. Once the new one was installed, I got a jump-start and drove to Autozone to have them test it. It was reading 13.3 volts with the engine running. They ran some other test and said that it was within limits of acceptable (I'd thought it was supposed to be 14.4 volts with the engine on) ... After the jump start that first day the new alt was in, I drove all week to and from work and school and was able to successfully start each time, so I assumed the battery and alternator were working okay. The only change I did on Saturday was to replace the oil pressure switch, and put a piece of tape over that little hole. Could the oil pressure switch be bleeding juice somehow? I don't see how with the key off. Could my battery have gone bad in the week I've been driving? I don't know. My lil bro who knows more about cars than I said it's got to be the battery and to take it back to AZ and have them retest it.
Any ideas?
Thank you and sorry for the long post...
