To begin with, you need a spacer between the upper control arm and body. There is a SAAB special tool for this, but you could just use a piece of wood, an old brake pad, two sockets, ect. This keeps the spring under load so you can check the ball joints. Without putting the spacer in, they will feel tight no matter how worn they are.
First wiggle the lower control arm up and down. If it wiggles, you need a lower ball joint. Its a common failure and makes a lot of racket.
Next wiggle the entire steering knuckle assembly (just hold the brake rotor). If it wiggles, you need an upper ball joint. They are the same part as the lower one. They wear out too, but not as often as the lower one.
Now look at the lower shock bushing. Once it gets some wear, it makes racket. Costs very little and easy to install.
Look at the upper shock bushing. If it is worn out or missing, just replace the shocks. These fail less often.
Check the sway bar ends. They can make alot of racket. If they look all worn out, they may be the source of your noise. Even if they look good, they can be the source of your noise.
Last but not least, when the car is back on the ground look at the upper control arm bushings from inside the engine compartment. Hopefully these are in good shape, because access to 3 of the 4 of them is very difficult. These are usually fine.
In my experience with these cars, the most common racket makers in the front end are lower ball joints, lower shock bushings, and sway bar ends.
