I hope no one will be offended if I make a suggestion based on old GM products, but back in the '60's, when Impalas were characterized by triple tail lights, when corrusion ruined the ground (only a few years on those cars) the current would somehow flow to ground through the brakelight circuit, and when the driver was driving normally, the car would have nice bright taillights (sometimes one side or the other) because the brakelight filaments were glowing too, but when he/she/it stepped on the brakes, the lights all went out. I never did understand why.
