I don't want to jump in the middle of this, but Hans is correct that there is no mechanical centrifugal advancing mechanism. Vacuum alone controls this function on the 16V.
There is however, on the 8V a centrifugal mechanical type advance on the 1979 to 1980 turbo, and maybe the non turbo as well. I just bought one to look at, but haven't got it apart yet.
