Dude, the car is 20 years old. Dude, you bought a 20 year old car, have problems, and blaming the manufacturer? Sorry, but I gotta rant on that one.
If you buy a 20 year old car, you gotta expect to have some issues leftover from the previous owner. You also gotta expect to have some new issues. The car is friggin 20 years old! It is way overdue for a new alternator, if that is what the problem is.
I sure hope you didn't buy this car because you thought it would be trouble free. The classic 900 is one of the best made cars ever, but it can't hide from age. If you were hoping to have a car and drive just drive it without having to think about it, there are excellent lease options available on Hondas and Chevrolets.
I trust you bought the Classic 900 because nothing else looks like it, nothing else feels like it, nothing else sounds like it, and you are willing to do what it takes to keep it on the road, including the extra maintenance and resourcefulness required for an old car.
Ok, end of rant (and by the way, it likely is the alternator, that's what it was on mine. I had a shop replace it for me because it looked like a bear to do myself and it was my only car so needed it done fast. Rented a car for the day it was being worked on. Charging system been perfect ever since).
