this post is for anyone suffering from bad fuel mileage and they know their car can do better. this may be a possible cure.
let me take you back a few years when i had installed the 30lb injectors along with the 3.0 fuel regulator.
the extra fuel usage was fun but i averaged 200 miles a tank, so after awhile i turned back to the stock injectors but only gained 50 more miles on a tank, on a car that used to get 380 miles a tank. i chalked it up to the 3.0 fuel regulator pushing the extra fuel.
so as time passed i averaged no better than 250 a tank for the last 3 to 4 years. just recently the car started having sporadic idling issues and with the suggestions of others on this bb on the cause of the problem i found a list started to form on what needed to be done to the car to solve this issue.
Simon S had mentioned the air mass meter as a possible culprit, and of course if it wasn't mentioned id never look at the part, even though i was hesitant on ripping out the amm to inspect it i did it any way (in an auto zone parking lot)
after extracting the amm i looked inside at the microscopic wires running in the tube of the amm and noticed the thin wire had a slight brownish black film on them from where the microscopic dirt bypassed the air filter. it seemed this dirt over the course of many years built up on the amm internal wire. so...
i took a walk and went into auto zone looking for electric/contact cleaner in aspray can. while standing there reading all the cans that auto zone had to offer i saw one that had a amm label, so i picked it up and started reading it.
the can boasted that the car would have an immediate 5 to 15 hp gain. i chuckled a bit and thought yeah right, but i still needed a product to clean the internal wire so i thought what the heck this will do.

after buying it i strolled back over to the dismantled car and grabbed the amm and sprayed the heck out of it. the internal wire is now like new, not a hint of grime anywhere, put the car back together, hoped inside, and started it up.
instantly i noticed a 500 rmp gain, i had thought its probably the toxic fumes from the spray can and this is my 5 to 15 hp gain. after having a smile creep over my face i assumed this toxic fume would evaporate 30 miles down the road and my idling would return to normal.

this exact day i was taking a 160mile trip one way. headed to the gas station topped off the tank and hit the hwy.
i have since returned from this trip and my low fuel light has yet to come on, the trip odometer reading 318 miles off the tank.
as for the 500 rpm increase it is still there so looks ill have to adjust my idle a bit. thanks Simon S for mentioning the amm, its good to have a hybrid again. :)
