So a week and a half ago, my alternator in my 1993 900S convertible went. My mechanic replaced it, and a week ago, I picked it up at his place. But on my drive home, the car did exactly the same thing as it had done three days earlier: the radio quit working, the ABS light came on, the car lost most all its momentum in the lower gears and eventually just died. AAA towed it back to his shop.

I went by today and he said that he determined it was a problem with the relay. He showed me though that if you turn the key enough so that all the dash indicators come on and then wait for them to go off before turning over the engine, the car would start up fine. He also said it would be fine to drive like that and wouldn't die on me like before. He also said the fog lamps likely played a big part in wearing down the relay.

However, it looks like I need to take it to a Saab specialist.

Does this sound like a plausible explanation for the car continuing to break down? And can I drive it ten or so miles to Atomic Auto without needing a tow truck again?
