900TC won't stay running

1993 900 TC with 75,000. Just had the engine and turbo rebuilt where it sat at mechanics for about 6 weeks. Picked it up last weekend, had to jump start, and it ran fine the 22 miles home. Took it through a drive thru car wash and on the way home, one of the vaccum lines popped off on top of the engine. I took an electical tie and secured it. I've tried to jump start it since then, and while it starts and runs, as soon as I disconnect the jumper cables, the engine dies. The battery is a year old. Since I can't keep it started, I can't get to Firestone to check the battery. Should I take the battery out and take it to Firestone or is there another issue going on? It seems to me that if I can jump start it, it should stay running, even if the battery is low. TIA for any suggestions.
