First, if you'd like to do the trip in a C900, try Walter Wong at Right Solution in West L.A. He will rent you a classic 900. He also owns the red convertible that was the actual C900 used in "Sideways".
Second, there are some really great wineries up there. Do your research, and get lots of feedback. Our last trip, we went to Blackjack, Rideu and Sunstone. All were great for slightly different reasons (architecture, atmosphere, clientele). Sunstone was our favorite overall. Great wine, beautiful architecture.
The last time we were up there, we went to Fess Parker and Firestone. Both were also pretty great. We really did our homework, and both trips were amazing.
Pace yourself, and bring a lot of bottled water. You can get buzzed quite quickly, and if you are driving, you might get in trouble. If you don't want to drive, there are chauffered limos and tour vans that you can hire. I think 3 or 4 in a day would suffice, and take your time when there. Eat at the second place (second place should be the place you most want to visit), because sometimes there is fog and overcast skies in the morning. This usually burns off mid-day. Most places open around 11am, and close around 4 or 5.
I hope this was helpful.
