VT,
SAAB.
I've found that often disassembling, cleaning and re-packing a noisy CV will make it as good as new. Once disassembled you can see whether it has notches in the ball grooves and noisy CVs often have no discernible damage to the grooves or balls, they just want clean grease. If the one I want to re-pack is damaged then I'll go get a good used one, clean and re-pack it and put a new boot on there. Of course left and right CVs are the same, it's the axle shafts that vary, and they are easily swapped, keep that in mind if you go shopping for a good used CV. It seems that the re-building industry has become a "back-alley" business these days.
