Hi, I posted a while back regarding having no compression in #2 Cylinder. I pulled the head and found that one of the exhaust valves was missing about an eighth of its head. I have no idea what caused this.
The car only has about 82k on it. I am the second owner and the previous owner had reported an oil consumption problem early in the cars history. The first record of it was around 23k and the headgasket was replaced by the dealer who sold her the car.
One thing that I am very fortunate for, is that the pieces of the broken valve did not seem to do any damage to the turbo. As you can see from the pictures the valves and piston heads are coated with a very crusty residue.
I have taken all the valves out and they are all straight, and all the valve stem seals seem to be in good shape.
I am debating replacing the head with a head from a 2.1 for better flow. I might just try porting this one myself, after bringing it to a machine shop to do a pressure test.
I hope redoing the head will address the oil consumption issue. I have already checked the pcv valve and it is correctly oriented and working fine.
One other thing. The timing chain tensioner is extended to about 15mm. I plan on rolling on a new one.
