the trick is they are usually glued to the shaft... you cannot be gentle. a pair of channel locks or slip joint pliers works wonderfully well, you just squeeze until the rotor destructs.
it is not a take off and re-use your old rotor type of thing. if you do not have a new rotor in your hot little hand, leave your existing one on there until you get a new one. then crunch and replace!
