1979 & 1980 900s had mirrors that were NOT part of the window area. They were bolted on the top of the door the old fashioned way. Mirror glass is usually not separately replaceable on these. Door glass is also different for these cars.
1981-EOP 900s were pretty much all the same mirror mounts on all body styles - EXCEPT Convertibles - in two flavors: manual and power. Manual mirrors will work on any C900. Power mirrors will need at least the wiring harness in the door changed out or added in a door that didn't originally have power mirrors. The wiring on the other side of the door jamb is present in all C900s, as are the mirror control wires.
The only difference, as mentioned, was the addition of heated mirrors.
The Convertibles had mirrors that mimicked the design of the 9000 mirrors, but there are subtle differences in the way they mount at the door, so you can't swap 9000 mirrors with 900 CV mirrors.
Now, the mirror glass is another story. For all POWER mirrors on the C900 and 9000, the mirror glass is interchangeable among all years, 1981 till they stopped making 9000s in 1998. The only differences would have been: heat, color (bronze tint or green/blue), and the several variations for different markets (flat, convex, aspheric, "object in mirror...", etc.).
For the MANUAL mirrors on the 900, and, if you live outside North America, the 99 and 90, the glass is again interchangeable for all years 1981-1993.
Manual and power mirror glass is not interchangeble.
BTW - for those who, like me, are big fans of the "aspheric" (split) mirrors, they are available for all C900, 9000, 99 and 90, in both power and manual styles.
