leave the car in gear and tend not to use the e-brake.
only use the e-brake when you have the car running and u need to run back into the house real quick to get your wallet you left on the table, pulling the e-brake in this situation is perfect.
pulling the e-brake and leaving the car sit for a prolonged period amount of time can have the rear calipers stick, or at lest one of them.
if this is the case stop the car on a slight hill then release the brake pedal and see if the car rolls backward with ease.
another test is to park the car on level ground. while sitting in the driver seat push the car backward with your left foot sticking out the driver door, the car should roll with ease if you find its quite hard to roll the car its a stuck caliper, if it rolls with ease the e-cable detached somewhere as the others suggested.
