well, yah, I hear ya. Mine is my daily too. However, I have only learned how to work on these beasts (gentle beasts) by doing.
I'd approach this on a friday before too many beers have been ingested.

Not too technical of a job, but you'd need 4 or 5mm hex sockets to get the AC bracket off (NOT disconnecting the lines) and a 13mm socket to get the tensioner loose...then a combination of wrenches 15/16/17 or so to get the bottom Alternator bracket bolt off, and you should be home free...but there a few caviats to this story...like the bolt is too long to pull out directly, and the hoses to the heater core get in the way. good luck either way you go.
