I just purchased 1990 Saab 900 turbo (5 speed). I drove it home 5 hours and all seemed well on the highway, but once I got to Brooklyn, NY the mean streets produced a horrible rattle which I assumed was broken exhaust hangers. I inspected all the exhaust components and realized they were in good shape. After some research I am realizing it could be the inner driver/axle assembly. The boots are torn up but do not click clack when doing a 360 turn in either direction. I'm hoping to replace the inner driver on passenger side, where noise seems to come from and re-grease axles + add new boots. My question is, should I buy new axle assembly if I'm replacing the inner driver even though I didn't hear any noise coming from them while doing 360 turns? Thanks for input.
