This reflector redoing is an OLD issue.. given that most reflectors died when the cars were 10/12 years old :-)
It ..May.. be possible to have a telescope mirror maker redeposit a coating on the plastic reflector housing (it's done in a Vac chamber) BUT it's pricey and not intended /expected to live too many years. Also the subject surface MUST be perfectly clean. However the resultant reflective finish is absolutely perfect, if that's of any help.
Chrome Monokote Trim is a V cheap experiment and being Vac deposited ali on a Mylar substrate is 'at least' the equal surface to the lo quality Hella paint reflector, at approx 1 mil thick it is very thin.
Risk (gasp!) the $3 and experiment for yourself :-)
