I have a 1993 Saab 900. About 6 months ago it would start to occasionally die while driving. All I had to do was turn the key and it would restart while coasting. Then 1 day it died and while the starter would keep cranking, the engine wouldn't start. Had it towed to my local Saab mechanic. The fuel pump was leaking, the mechanic thought fixing that would do the trick. It didn't and the car had to be towed to his shop within a month.
He used the car as his shop vehicle, driving it several times a week for a few months and couldn't get it to fail. I picked it up to get the studded tires off and it died at the tire shop. The mechanic came out and verified that there was no spark at the distributor but when he towed it back to the shop it started up and he still can't localize the problem. Said that it could be one of several things and he has to have diagnostic equipment on the car when it fails, to know what repair to do. So now the car sits on my street. I have no idea what to do with it. It had been reliable transportation for the 6 years I've owned it but I don't feel like driving it until the next tow.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
