Perhaps I wasn't clear in my post on 8-11-10 at 17:03. The differential CAN indeed be dropped out of the C900 five speed transaxle while the transaxle is residing in it's usual habitat and the differential MUST be dropped out in order to extract and replace the reverse idler. I don't recall there being any need to move either the rack or anti-sway bar but my memory is fuzzy on that point and, if so, it would still be much less work than entirely removing the transaxle from the car.
