FYI: I am amidst an F'er of a Exhaust manifold nightmare.
Those studs can shear off at any point, leaving a stud recessed into the head. THe original Collars on the longer studs are slotted, maybe allowing a vice grip to hold it, and hold the stud too, in place so it does not twist while turning the bolt.
I have my head off anyway, but broke off an extractor bit in the exhaust manifold stud, and its recessed into the head. My plan (with a new carbide burr and carbide bit) is to flatten out that extractor bit with the burr, tap a new hole with the carbide bit, and then hammer in a four-knived extractor 'bit' that I can then twist out the stud. F'er is that the stud was loose, but the extractor bit (cheap-o Autozone) sheared. F'in NIGHTMARE.
Everything else in the HG and timing chain jobber is going swell, though. F!
