I think the later brakes are superior in every respect, but when the early brakes work, they provide plenty of stopping power. Back in the day, the front parking brake was useful in the snow to get both wheels spinning, and it provides a lot more force than the rear parking brake on the later cars. Often times, you really have to crank up on that handbrake lever to keep those cars from rolling on a hill when parked and not in gear.
Personally, I just like the older brakes b/c they are different, and add to the cars "uniqueness".
If I drove the car every day, year round, or on a track, I'd want the later brakes.
I don't, so the old ones are fine.
