I found that the curved shape of regular slip joint pliers helped pry one that screwdrivers would not budge. The curve helped give me room to push- put the end of one arm under the seal lip, push the handle of that arm towards the front of car, with the outer surface of that leg of the pliers against the trans case. The stiffness of the pliers and square jaw managed to pry the seal while screwdrivers just cut thru the lip. Torch can help soften the rubber coating, as others have mentioned.
