OH man,,,bummer.
I was so scared of those plastic guides when I did my HG last month.
You may want to roll in a new chain while you're at it...or I guess just put one on since you're pulling the engine...
Two new inner driver boots too.
MAN that sucks.
My rational for HG replacement sounds like similar reasons: loose head bolts. I was getting overpressurized coolant, and cylinder 3 had two bolts surrounding it that were not loose but did not need persuasion to get them off. Probably could have just retorqued and been done, like you.
