yes, once it is seated properly it will be flush with the gear that it went through, then when you screw the plastic impeller in it will snug up and be against both surfaces, it moves the fluid around.
glad it all worked out...
Also, if in the future you are having a problem getting the shaft *out*.. put one of the bolts from the pressure plate, or take one out of the end of the transmission as they are a bit longer... and screw into the end of the shaft in place of the plastic impeller... use a pry bar to lever the shaft out, it will come out... BE SURE TO PUT THAT BOLT BACK!
