I currently have a '85 4 door 900 turbo and a '93 4 door 900S. As of November 2010 from Crutchfield these speakers fit the dash of either car (they are identical as far as I can tell): Polk Audio Dxi400. They are 2 way 4" with cone and surround material that I expect will hold up to sunlight. The tweeters do not interfere with the grill. They sound OK and are a significant improvement over the original speakers in the '85.
I had a nicer (at least nicer on paper) Kenwood speaker that is actually a 3 way. I returned it because it would not fit without cutting the grills as the tweeter assembly was too high. Note that Crutchfield listed it incorrectly as fitting. I believe they have corrected their listing. The item that does not fit is KFC 1093PS. You could trim the grill, mount the speaker and then put the Kenwood grill over the top of the factory grill. However, I don't want to attract attention and thought I saw a reflection in the windshield when I dummied it up on the passenger side.
Feel free to contact me for additional information.
Note that I am on some level a musician and do not have 100% of my hearing. My philosphy in a car is that OK is good enough and these Polks exceed that.
