Whenever I work on a car with unknown TDC markings, I locate the #1 piston to the top. Working with a wooden dowel install into the spark plug hole of #1 cylinder, I move the crankshaft clock-wise and then counter clock-wise and mark the position of each location where the piston just starts to drop downwards. I then divide the two marks in half. This will be exactly where TDC will be. Doing the check this way allows for the few degrees where the crankshaft swings by the arc at TDC and there's no up/down motion of the piston. After you find the exact TDC position, align the camshafts and install the chain and the tensioner. The timing setting for a 900s is fixed inside the harmonic balancer pulley. The only thing you need to check is that when the distributor is firing from the rotor to the lug inside the cap. My 91/900s is unadjustable as where my 92/900turbo can have the timing re-set by moving the distributor. Good luck on this :)
