I don't remember any of the A series engines having one in the UK.

Never had to replace one on my Triumph Dolomite Sprint either, whose engine is a close relative of the C900.

On a larger scale, the Alternator drive on Lyc Aircraft engines is just a belt and plain pulley. Only 2700 RPM but its a 360 Cu In 4 cyl so *plenty* of cylinder firing impulse!

I always assumed this was just for less accessory vibration at idle?
