back of the temp gauge . my temp gauge read slightly low and would jump up or down about a quarter inch before I tightened the ground nut which solved the problem . the fuel gauge has the same nut and on my car the same problem until I tightened it . I had to buy a very petite bodied wrench to get it on the nut through the speaker hole and it was still a struggle , but this was a much easier alternative than removing the gauge cluster . if you go this route be careful not to over tighten this little nut and break its bolt or the back of the gauge . you'd probably then need a new gauge . as a test you could hook a jumper wire from the little bolt on the back of the gauge to a good ground to see if the gauge reads normal . I think this test makes sense , but I'm not sure of the actual ground path on this unusual ground circuit .
