good point. I just went back + looked at his old posts. 1991 se turbo automatic vert. explains a lot!

chas: what colour is the oil you're leaking? if it's red, it's not engine oil... could be one of the pan gaskets, or even a corrosion/road damage induced pinhole through one of the pans (been there, done that)... sometimes it can be hard to isolate where it is coming from as the atf runs around + drips off stuff, eg often an atf leak will drip off a low point underneath where the engine oil filler tube is, so that might explain your confusion in your earlier post...

that said, if your autobox is acting up, you may also have some very ugly looking ATF (eg it might look almost like engine oil)! Get a dozen quarts of Ford Type F + a *clean* funnel (I keep one only for this in a ziplock) + change it 3x... bently shows how to do it + it is easy. check what level it is first (on a warmed transmission) + top up as needed. then catch what you drain, measure, + replace the same amount... the 3x is because you only get about 40% of the atf out with a drain, so you're mixing clean with dirty + it's a dilution process, but works ok... if you're more industrious, turbocon86 gives a good description of a more thorough way to flush the atf in the link below.

use the search feature, + particularly note CMyles' comments + you will learn a lot...

good luck!

James...
