Well, I wonder what kind of valve you bought if it works in both lines?
If you have a true fuel pressure check valve nipple and install that in the return line you will end up with a hoop of problems running the fuel pump against a dead stop.
So, since the proper fuel return spring loaded valve cannot be bought as far as I know but you have to buy the whole return line. I would look into what you got.
What we do when the return line valve nipple breaks is to gut out the spring and ball valve out of the pressure check valve nipple and insert it into the return plastic line.
