The (Good) continuum rolls on: rad. drain plug Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Wed, 2 Feb 2011 23:53:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Some might recall that I posted a message a few weeks ago re: sourcing/finding a replacement for the radiator drain plug for my '93 that I (carelessly) twisted off. While the post didn't immediately yield any productive leads on the board, I was way more than pleased to find an email some time later (in an account I don't often use or check) from a fellow in California, by the name of Roger, who wrote that he might be able to fix me up.
Long story short, he did-- I received the exact part I needed late last week, installed it today, and voila, my car no longer piddles antifreeze wherever it goes.
Although not the purpose of this post, I want to note that while there is an O-ring on the drain plug, it's not at all where I had imagined, having never taken one out all the way. It lives in a slot at the far end of the plug, on a reduced diameter portion that is away from the drain port and the 15/16" header that I twisted off. I used a No. 9 bolt extractor to back-out the remnants, and, sure enough, the O-ring was in at least two pieces, one of which was not even in the channel/slot when I got it out.... hence the constant seep of antifreeze. Replacement went in, seated easily, and my 900 no longer needs a kotex-- Yay!
The true purpose of this post is to publicly thank Roger for his help-- all he asked for was reimbursement for postage, but I'll see that stamp and raise-- and even more, he took the time to check his stash of parts, email me a picture to make sure it was right, and mail it, simply to help out a fellow C900 owner.
This is an amazingly generous community we are part of-- generous with advice, to be sure, but the occasional part, too, and all in the shared interest of keeping these wonderful cars on the road.
Thanks, Roger. There will be mail coming soon with a token of my appreciation, but the larger debt may remain unpaid for a while-- I'll be looking for an opportunity to help someone out in the same spirit of trust and fellowship that you have so nicely demonstrated.
Pay it back and pay it forward, all...
Scott
