This may not work out, but I thought I'd offer: I recently oredered rear brake calipers from a site sponsor for my '93. All of the mounting bolts/screws were recycled from the old caliper, except for those holding the new (reman) pad carrier bracket. Every try to insert quickly felt like a cross-thread and I didn't push it. I took the reman carrier to every hardware and parts store in a 10 mile radius, but all they stocked were the 1.0 pitch screws and they bound-up the same way. I finally decided that the old bracket, showing no signs of wear, would serve just as well as the replacement that came with the reman'd caliper, so used it instead and all went together smoothly.
Bottom line, and I know it's a longshot, is that if you have a late model caliper laying around, you might try it as a source of the screw you are looking for. [For the record, while my experience lead to the conclusion that the pitch was wrong, I'm not as confident in my recollection that it was an M6 (vs M8) diameter screw in the caliper.]
Good luck... Scott
