Finally Cured Vacuum Leak (fingers crossed) Posted by nateh89spg [Email] (#563) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nateh89spg) on Sat, 19 Mar 2011 15:19:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi All,
Was puttering around with my 88 SPG on Friday (low 60's here in Mass) still trying to combat a significant vacuum leak which I've had for some time. The car idled a little high and you could really hear the hiss, but it ran ok so I didn't dwell much. Anyway, all lines were replaced, grommets replaced or sealed or both etc. etc. etc. I could not chase it down as it sounded like the source was in one particular area (one of the junctions from the T on top of the intake to where it passes through the fire wall). Just for Ss and Gs, I pinched off the line heading to the intake from the diverter valve and voila, the hiss went away and the idle returned to normal. Hmmmm. Ordered a new one from a site sponsor which arrived today installed and oooooooooooo, no exaggerated hiss and normal idle. Cool. I surgically dismantled the old one to find a ruptured and rolled diaphragm, so it was not wasted money. Now with the luck of the Irish (even though I'm not), hopefully this helps cure my base boost too. Still too much salt for my liking on the road to drive, so results will have to wait, but I am remaining optimistic.
Hopefully this helps someone from tearing their hair out like I did trying to chance down a leak.
Have a great weekend all and keep the shiny side up for those fortunate enough to be driving their C900s.
Nate
